Karasu Corps Returns, as Does Its FEF Translation Project and Some News on Tokyo Mirage Sessions

I’m back!

I got back on Tuesday night (aunt and uncle and set up in southern Kyushu just fine now) and I’ve been working slowly behind the scenes to get the site back running and more translations up, but it might be a few days before you see some translations come online or a week or two to get back to my previous 5 to 10 translations a day norm that I was at before. This is because I need to earn a nice buffer of money to pay for essentials again and then have savings left over to reduce my freelance jobs and pump out that amount of money. There are also a lot of small and large requests for other translations and things.

As I promised when I began this project that I would be as transparent as possible if anything got in the way, this is what that is: my promise to you to be accurate about what’s going on and not just leave you out of the loop.

Now yesterday I started going through comments on the site to see what parts I need to still edit in my old translations and to get backend things done to maintenance all the info, as well starting answering a lot of the correspondence I got while I was gone in e-mail, reddit PMs and Twitter DMs.

I did notice that Tokyo Mirage Sessions doesn’t have its battle and incidental dialogue translated from Japanese so players who don’t speak Japanese have no clue what they’re saying and I don’t think this has been addressed in the restoration patch for the costumes. Therefore, since this is really easy, (I own the game, I’ve played through the game, I have a lot of saves I can use to collect information) I’ll be providing translations for all that incidental dialogue that adds character on my site and if some team wants to find a way to implement it in a patch or something, you’ll be welcome to it. Of course my largest commitment is to Fates, so that takes precedence, but as soon as I get back in the groove, I’ll start posting Mirage Sessions incidental dialogue as a bonus.

Additionally, I had some articles and other requests I had been working on behind the scenes that I should be able to post more on soon and of course when I get the time I’ll start the Angelique project as well. In the meantime, the priorities look like this:

  1. Get the site updated and cleaned up.
  2. Edit old translations, because it’s been a long time since I got suggestions and people have been waiting for them to be implemented.
  3. Start posting new translations and try to get back in the groove, while working on fulfilling older requests.
  4. Tokyo Mirage Sessions/ Angelique

The next time I post it should be a Daily Goals update or a new translation, so it’s good to be back and I hope the regular contributors will continue helping out with your welcomed feedback. Let me know if you’ve got any suggestions or criticisms about my approach too! Thank you for your patience and see you soon!

Today’s Goals and Jobs – 3/31/2016

It’s a brand new day, so here my goals and the jobs for 3/31/2016.  Thanks so much to all the people who have helped out! Remember to follow me on Twitter to get more updates.

What’s Going On

Yesterday, I had to work paying jobs quite a bit yesterday, so I didn’t have as much time to translate. Sorry!

I did manage to translate three Skinship dialogues that were cut out of the international release.

Asama Skinship

Ashura Skinship

Anna Skinship

Today’s Goals

  • Now that I’ve got more time, going back to trying to up the amount of support conversations to more than five a day.
  • Continue translating other parts of the game, including Skinship.
  • Respond to your feedback and help and make relevant changes.

Possible complications: I need to step out for a few hours this morning, but by afternoon I should be able to devote a significant chunk of time to translation, so I hope to make up for yesterday.

How you can help out: I’ll never stop needing different sets of eyes to look over my translations and make sure they’re natural in English, so if you can help out, it would be much appreciated. As well, if I’ve made a change to a translation that you strongly disagree with, let me know. You can updates for all the changes I’m making in the Changelog.

Jobs I Need Done

  • As of now, I only have two opinions that I can see about the name for a hidden world, so please, please leave me a comment on what you think it should be translated as.
  • As always, I need people to spread the word, so we can get as much help as possible!
  • You know what I’m going to say! I need feedback wherever solicited or on relevant translation pages!

Thank you in advance for any help you give and may the ravens always smile upon you!

As always, there’s a page to discuss matter with others or contact me about how they’d like to help out with the Fire Emblem Fates project. It’s been updated to a new page for April. You can use that page for the remaining days of March to discuss things with other members in a more general nature. Thank you for all the people who contacted me or contributed so far! Much love and respect! As well, don’t forget there’s also a page for you to request any kind of Japanese information you need, regardless of whether it’s about Fire Emblem Fates or not. This page has also been updated for April.

April Requests

Welcome to the post for April Requests, where you request any Japanese to English translation job you need. Broadly speaking, there are three types of requests I work with:

  • Help with fan translations of novels, games, anime, manga, etc.
  • Specific articles on the ‘net that somebody is wondering about
  • Questions about broader Japan-related issues that I can answer by translating material

You can request by posting in the comments below.

No request is too small or too big. A raven lives to serve! Wondering about an old game? Post your question! Japanese learner who is not sure if a translation they read or saw is accurate? Go ahead! I will honor all good faith requests that I can and work to help you out. You can view the progress for your requests on the Current Requests page, which is constantly being updated every day. Thank you for your interest and have a lovely day. Kaw!

Today’s Goals and Jobs – 3/28/2016

Here my goals and the jobs I’m working on for 3/28/2016.  Thanks again for all your detailed comments and constructive criticisms! Remember you can follow me on Twitter to get more updates.

What’s Going On

I completed my goal to post at least five new support conversations. The conversations I did yesterday are as follows:

Kazahana x Saizou C

Kazahana x Saizou B

Kazahana x Saizou A

Felicia x Kazahana C

Felicia x Kazahana B

I completed my goal to get some work done on the Current Requests page and posted a translated article about censorship in Japanese games and CERO’s role in it.

I completed my goal of uploading stuff for Fawful Friday, in particular, a Famitsu article I translated in the past about women in the Japanese gaming industry, and a series of short real-life anecdotes on gaming culture from a book called The Cry of the Soul.

Today’s Goals

  • Continue to upload at least five more pages of support conversations, to continue to be consistent, try to aim for more than that today as I’ve gotten used to the format
  • Respond to constructive criticism and feedback and implement suggested relevant changes to current translations
  • Start translating the main story

How you can help out: You can help me by continuing to give feedback and constructive criticism on my translations. As well, if I’ve made a change to a translation that you strongly disagree with, let me know. You can updates for all the changes I’m making in the Changelog.

Jobs I Need Done

  • As always, I need people to spread the word, so we can get as much help as possible!
  • You know what I’m going to say! I need feedback wherever solicited or on relevant translation pages!
  • I still need some kind soul to count the number of My Castle system menu dump files for different facilities/gameplay menus I need to translate for My Castle. In order to do so, you can use the materials in this pastebin here. (Edit: fixed, should reflect the correct link now.)
  • I got a mail about the Translations from Soul Cry article I did, but the problem is all they did was call me a retard and say it was offensive. This person currently hasn’t responded to my request for clarification on my mental faculties or why it was offensive. If someone could let me know what the actual problem with the article is that I should correct, that would be great.

Thank you in advance for any help you give and may the ravens always smile upon you!

As always, there’s a page to discuss or contact me about how they’d like to help out with the Fire Emblem Fates project.

Today’s Goals and Jobs – 3/26/2016

Here my goals and the jobs I’m working on for 3/26/2016.  Thanks again for all your detailed comments and feedback! Remember you can follow me on Twitter to get more updates.

What’s Going On

I completed my goal of creating a master list where you can find all currently translated material for Fire Emblem Fates. Hopefully, this will make it easier to navigate the site as more and more content gets uploaded.

I completed my goal to start translating other parts of the game. I started with the Arena Messages List.

I completed my goal to respond to people’s feedback and edit translations for greater fluency. These changes can be found on the Changelog.

I completed my goal to post at least five new support conversations, and finished uploading two more complete sets of support conversations, which are Lazwald x Luna and Rinka x Saizou. The conversations I did yesterday are as follows:

Lazwald x Luna S

Rinka x Saizou C

Rinka x Saizou B

Rinka x Saizou A

Rinka x Saizou S

Today’s Goals

  • Continue to upload at least five more pages of support conversations, to continue to be consistent
  • Post the first Fawful Friday posts. Fawful Friday is where I post translations that are not related to Fire Emblem Fates, but to the wider realm of Japanese-related things. I’ll be uploading some of my past stuff and translating an interview 4Gamer did with CERO, the ratings board for Japanese games. If you don’t know who Fawful is, this video should explain things to you.
  • To get a little more done with the work in the Current Requests page, which is now updated with the requests I’ve gotten.

Possible complications: I’ve got a lot of work to do today. Hopefully I can get it all done and it’s not too much.

For that reason, I’m going to hold off from replying to comments and editing translations for today, just so I can focus on these areas. Please understand that I am not ignoring you guys’ fantastic contributions, there are just times when I need to focus on other things. Please continue to give feedback, because I do see it and note it and appreciate it and I will get around to implementing it.

As well, I’ve decided that in order to not burn out, I’ll take every Saturday off for rest, because it’s my favorite day of the week. I hope this doesn’t offend you, but I think I’ll need it as time goes on and the grind gets more serious. I will devote a lot of Sunday to implementing your ideas and changes to the scripts.

How you can help out: Provide constructive criticism about the translations I post. Provide continuing feedback about site issues and what you’d like to see me focus on next in the translation. Tell me if the Fawful Friday things I post are informative, or if you’d like to see me focus on a different area.

Jobs I Need Done

  • I need people to spread the word, so we can get as much help as possible!
  • As always I need feedback wherever solicited or on relevant translation pages!
  • If some kind soul would provide the number of My Castle system menu dumps for different facilities/gameplay menus I need to translate, I would be eternally grateful.

Thank you in advance for any help you give and may the ravens always smile upon you!

As always, there’s a page to discuss or contact me about how they’d like to help out with the Fire Emblem Fates project. You can use that page for the remaining days of March to discuss things with other members in a more general nature. Thank you for all the people who contacted me or contributed so far! Much love and kisses! As well, don’t forget there’s also a page for you to request any kind of Japanese information you need, regardless of whether it’s about Fire Emblem Fates or not.
