Today’s Goals and Jobs – 4/13/2016

Here are my goals and the jobs I’m working on for 4/13/2016. I see some new people have been commenting recently. Thanks much to new and old commenters! Remember to follow me on Twitter to get more updates.

What’s Going On:

Well, I didn’t really have a goal because of the internet issues, but I still got a ton translated:

Hinata x Orochi C

Hinata x Orochi B

Hinata  x Orochi  A

Hinata x Orochi S

Ophelia x Shalla C

Ophelia x Shalla B

Ophelia x Shalla A

Kamui (M) x Sakura C

Ignis x Nyx C

Ignis x Matoi C

Asama x Mozume C

Nyx Skinship Lines

Shigure Skinship Lines

As well, big news! I got a request to do a second game, which is Angelique for the SNES/SFC. So obviously Fire Emblem Fates will continue to be the main attraction until it’s done. Once it is done, Angelique will be the main project, but until then, when I have some free time, I’ll be working on it in spurts, so as not to conflict with Fire Emblem Fates. Look for the first Angelique translations sometime soon.

Today’s Goals

  • Clear up older translations and incorporate feedback to edit them as well catch up on the site. I did a lot of translations while I couldn’t access the internet because the material is on my hard drive, but since I couldn’t access the site, I couldn’t correct older translations. I got a lot of feedback in those two days as well, so I thought I’d take a day to catch up on the backlog.

Possible Complications: Still got paying work to do.

How you can help out: Well, there was a bevy of new translations posted today. Any feedback and criticism is welcome!

Jobs I Need Done

  • I will always and forever need people to comment on my translations as much they can.
  • Vote! It’s spoiler free. If you’re waiting for the translation patch, these polls aren’t going to ruin anything for you.
  • Speaking of feedback, we had discusses before how to do translations of the different personality types for Kamui, the player character. I decided in the end to put notes at the end of the translation if it didn’t affect a lot of lines and to put all three personalities/politeness types together if there were many, many lines that got affected. Take a look at Kamui (M) x Sakura to see how I did it and let me know if that seems like an okay approach.

As always, there’s a page to discuss matter with others or contact me about how they’d like to help out with the Fire Emblem Fates project. It’s been updated to a new page for April. You can use that page for April to discuss things with other members in a more general nature. Thank you for all the people who contacted me or contributed so far! Much love and respect! As well, don’t forget there’s also a page for you to request any kind of Japanese information you need, regardless of whether it’s about Fire Emblem Fates or not. This page has also been updated for April.

Fire Emblem Fates Support Conversation: Kamui (M) x Sakura C

Please Note: The following material obviously spoils some of the story of Fire Emblem Fates. Please read responsibly at your own risk and do tell what you put in this lovely pot roast.

Here’s the support conversation between Kamui (M) x Sakura for the C level. (Original Japanese is included for reference and better transparency.) Please keep in mind that as the Japanese Kamui has three different politeness levels, only the lines where it makes something of a difference in the translation are noted below the complete translation, but the primary translation is the 僕 (B) personality.

Comments? Questions? Criticisms? Want to let me if I made a typo or if a better approach would work somewhere? Let me know in the comments below.

Translation start:

Kamui: Hey, Sakura! Ya doing okay? / カムイ: やあ、サクラ。元気かい?

Sakura: I’m … it’s … that is … yes. / サクラ: えと…あの…その………はい。

Kamui: O-oh? I sense some hesitation, you’re not coming down with something are you? / カムイ: あ、あれ? ちょっと間があったけど…ひょっとして、体調でも悪いのかい?

Sakura: No … that’s not it at all. My health is really … just fine. / サクラ: …いえ…違うんです。身体はとても…元気です。

Kamui: Oookay, then what’s wrong? … Could it be I’m not wanted here? / カムイ: じゃあどうしたの?…もしかして僕、嫌われてるのかな?

Sakura: N-no! It’s not that I hate you! / サクラ: そ、それも違います!カムイ兄様が嫌いなわけありません!

It’s just … I, well, talking face to face with someone … I’m not used to it … / ただ…私、人と面と向かってお話するのに…慣れてなくて…

Kamui: Oh, oh okay. Sorry to bother you then. / カムイ: そ、そうなんだ。ごめんね、突然話しかけちゃって。

Sakura:N-no … I should be the one to apologize. / サクラ: い、いえ…私こそごめんなさい。

My brother finally speaks to me and that’s all I can say. / せっかくカムイ兄様に声をかけていただいたのに。

Kamui: Well, it’s no big deal, really. But … that’s it! Since we’re talking now … / カムイ: いや、そんな大層なものじゃないよ。でも…そうだな。せっかくだから…

What if there was something I could maybe do to help you conquer your awkwardness when speaking up? / サクラの口下手を克服できるように、僕にも何かできることはないかな?

Sakura: ……. What? / サクラ: ……え?

Kamui: It can be pretty difficult to tackle the roots of an issue like this, but if the two of us practiced talking, I bet you’d start getting used to it and / カムイ: 根本的な解決はなかなか難しいだろうけど、二人で何度も会話すれば慣れるだろうし、

maybe, perhaps you might grasp how to talk to others? / サクラも人と話すコツが掴めるんじゃないかな?

Sakura:I’m not so sure about that … ? / サクラ: そ、そうでしょうか…?

Kamui: It’s settled! Practice over theory, ya know! Come on, let’s get started now! / カムイ: うん! 論より証拠だよ。早速やってみようよ。

End of 僕 (B) conversation.

Translation supplement – The following are the lines that change with a different politeness level for Kamui (M). The basic lines above are for the 僕 (B) personality. Below you will find 俺 (O) and 私 (W) where they have a meaningful enough change to make a difference in translation:
(W) Kamui: Hi, Sakura. Are you doing well? / カムイ: やあ、サクラさん。元気ですか?
(W) Kamui: Yes! Practice over theory is the way. Let’s get started as quickly as we can! / カムイ: ええ! 論より証拠です。早速やってみましょう。
(O) Kamui: Then what? … You don’t like me, is that it? / カムイ: じゃあどうした?…もしかして俺、嫌われてるのか?

Translation end!

Translation notes: It’s important to remember that Sakura came with a quick lie to cover her awkwardness here and she’s not actually bad at speaking with others. As for the personalities, as you can see, in some places, it does make a difference in the nuance the lines are spoken in. Have any recommendations or constructive criticisms on how to make it better?

Today’s Goals and Jobs – 4/9/2016

Tomorrow is Saturday! Here are my goals and the jobs I’m working on for 4/9/2016. Thanks again to everyone who is helping out! Remember to follow me on Twitter to get more updates.

What’s Going On:

I met my goal of doing six supports and one skinship. Lots of them showed significant differences from the Treehouse versions. Here they are:

Foleo x Shigure B

Foleo x Shigure A

Joker  x Sakura  C

Joker x Sakura B

Joker x Sakura A

Joker x Sakura S

Fuuga Skinship Lines

Still haven’t gotten those polls up. Gotta do that!

Today’s Goals

  • Translate 5+ supports, some skinship and who knows what else?
  • Marx and Elfy, I’ve been neglecting you. I promise I’m going to get to your name polls soon.
  • Fawful Friday posts ahoy!

Possible Complications: Luckily, I already did quite a lot of work this morning on an emergency assignment, so I’m free for the rest of the day.

How you can help out: Since the amount of links on this site are getting crazy, if you see a broken link or something hard to navigate, please, please let me know what’s wrong. Of course, constructive criticism on translations, voting in polls, all that is welcome and solicited. You can see updates for all the changes I’m making in the Changelog.

Jobs I Need Done

  • I will always and forever need people to comment on my translations as much they can.
  • Vote! It’s spoiler free. If you’re waiting for the translation patch, these polls aren’t going to ruin anything for you.
  • I’m going to continue to request help for the method of doing in-page links, because nothing I’ve tried so far is working!

As always, there’s a page to discuss matter with others or contact me about how they’d like to help out with the Fire Emblem Fates project. It’s been updated to a new page for April. Fire Emblem Fates Support Conversation: Joker x Sakura S

Sakura: To m-me? / サクラ: わ、私にですか?
Joker: It’s this … / ジョーカー: これです…
Sakura: This is a … r-ring, right? / サクラ: これは…\nゆ、指輪でしょうか?
Joker: Princess Sakura. Will you marry me? / ジョーカー: サクラ王女。私と結婚していただけないでしょうか?
Sakura: M-marry!? M-me!? / サクラ: け、結婚!?わ、私とですか!?
Joker: Your gentle, lovely heart and the upright character you show to us all, it has captured my heart and will not let go. / ジョーカー: その優しいお心と、ひたむきなお姿が、私の心を掴んでしまって離さないのです。
I cannot think of a life without you, Princess Sakura. / サクラ王女のいない人生などもう私には考えられません。
Sakura: Joker … / サクラ: ジョーカーさん…
Joker: Please, accept this ring, if you will. / ジョーカー: どうか、この指輪を\n受け取っていただきたく思います。
And with it … a lifetime with me … / そして…生涯を私と共に…
Sakura: ………… / サクラ: ………
I-I have … all these things I want to do. / わ、私には…やりたいことがあります。
I want to help everyone who is suffering under the brunt of their wounds or maladies. /怪我や病気で困っている全ての人をこの手で助けたい。
And I think these feelings are never going to change. / この思いはずっと変わらずに持ち続けると思います。
Joker: Yes. It should be a long and dangerous road. / ジョーカー: はい。長く険しい道のりでしょうね。
Sakura: Th-that’s why if you marry me … / サクラ: だ、だから、私と結婚をしたら…
I might end up pulling you … into my troubles … / ジョーカーさんに…ご迷惑をおかけしてしまうことに…
Joker: I shall walk with you. On your long, dangerous path, Princess Sakura./ ジョーカー: 私も共に歩みましょう。サクラ王女の歩く、長く険しい道のりを。
Sakura: Joker … / サクラ: ジョーカーさん…
Joker: If I can walk that road with my beloved … it matter not what the path is … / ジョーカー: 愛しい人と共に歩めるのなら…どんな道のりであっても…
I want to be able to experience that happiness as I walk with you. / 私は幸せを感じながら歩むことができます。
Sakura: You’re really okay with … me? / サクラ: 私で…本当にいいのですか?
Joker: Yes. Of course. / ジョーカー: はい。もちろんです。
Sakura: Thank you. Joker. / サクラ: ありがとうございます。ジョーカーさん。
Joker: So you will marry me? / ジョーカー: 結婚していただけますね?
Sakura: Yes … to our future. / サクラ: はい…\nよろしくお願いいたします。

Translation end!

Translation notes: よろしくお願いします (yoroshiku onegaishimasu) can mean so many different things, like “nice to meet you,” or “I hope this will be a good business transaction” or “take care of my little sister.” It’s a lot like similar Japanese phrases, such as 気をつけて (ki wo tsukete) or だから (dakara). It generally means well wishes to some future endeavor in social interactions. Since the context of this situation is them walking that dangerous path together, I translated it here as “to our future,” as if they were doing that thing where you clink wine glasses together and say something, whatever that’s called. In any event, if you have any suggestions for improving that or any other part of the dialogue, let me know down in the comments below.

Joker: Princess Sakura. Have you been studying? / ジョーカー: サクラ王女。お勉強をされているのですか?

That’s why I want to become stronger … and help those people, everyone really … / だから、私が強くなって…そんなみなさんを助けてあげたいです…

Joker: Is that right … / ジョーカー: そうですか…

Nevertheless, if you’re going to help everyone, that’s going to require a power unlike any other. / しかし、全員ともなるととてつもない力が必要になりますね。

Sakura: Yes … / サクラ: はい…

Joker: I do think it’s something nobody can do, help all the people who are in pain … / ジョーカー: 苦しむ者を全て救うことなど、誰にもできないことだと思いますが…

Sakura: I-I already know that! B-but! / サクラ: そ、そんなことはわかってます!で、でも!

It’s just no good if I can’t help everyone! / 全員じゃなければダメなんです!

I … I want to save every last person! / 私は…全員、救いたいんです!

Joker: I’ve uttered something truly unbecoming. It was a terribly rude thing to say. / ジョーカー: 無粋なことを申しました。大変、失礼いたしました。

Joker: I understand how you feel Princess Sakura. And that those feelings are genuine. / ジョーカー: サクラ王女のお気持ちはわかりました。その思いが本物だということも。

I am your ally, Princess Sakura. / 私はサクラ王女の味方です。

Sakura: Joker … thank you … / サクラ: ジョーカーさん…ありがとうございます…

Fire Emblem Fates Support Conversation: Joker x Sakura B

Please Note: The following material obviously spoils some of the story of Fire Emblem Fates. Please read responsibly at your own risk and don’t tell me I’m not an attack helicopter, dad, you don’t understand me.

Comments? Questions? Criticisms? Want to let me if I made a typo or if a better approach would work somewhere? Let me know in the comments below.

Translation start:

Sakura: ………… / サクラ:…………

Joker: You went there again. To those who have suffered wounds, to the side of our citizens. / ジョーカー: また行っていたのですね。怪我を負ってしまった民のところへ。

Sakura: Joker … / サクラ: ジョーカーさん…

Joker: Princess Sakura, you’re one who understands the pain of others. I have no desire to discourage your gentle ways. / ジョーカー: サクラ王女は、他人の痛みがわかるお方です。その優しさを否定する気はありません。

Sakura: Okay … / サクラ: はい…

Joker: But, if you burn yourself out, is it not putting the cart before the horse? / ジョーカー: ですが、それでサクラ王女が憔悴なさっては本末転倒ではないですか。

Please, I’m asking you to treat yourself with as much respect as the citizens you visit to help. / どうか、民への見舞いはご自重していただけるようお願いします。

Sakura: B-but … A-as a princess … my people … / サクラ: で、でも…\nわ、私は王女として…民を…

Joker: ………… / ジョーカー: …………

Allow me to deliver a harsh reality. / あえて厳しいことを言わせていただきます。

Even if you were to run all over the place tending to the wounded, Princess Sakura, you can’t heal everyone’s wounds. / サクラ王女が足繁く見舞いを続けたとしても、全ての民の傷を癒すことはできません。

Sakura: T-that is true … Even if I were to visit them … / サクラ: そ、そうですよね…私がお見舞いをしたところで…

It’s not like it will help them in the end. / あの人たちの助けにはなれないですものね。

Joker: … Unfortunately, yes. / ジョーカー: …はい。

Sakura: I-I … I just wanted to ease my conscience … / サクラ: わ、私…自分が楽になりたかったから…

Maybe that’s why I went to see t-them … / あ、あの人たちのお見舞いに行っていたのかもしれません…

I-I wanted others to say I’m looking after them as I should … / わ、私はみなさんをちゃんと気にしてるよって…

And I wanted … to think I was doing that too … / 自分で…そう思いたかったから…

Joker: Oh, Princess Sakura … / ジョーカー: サクラ王女…

Sakura: I-I’m sorry … I need to be alone for a bit … / サクラ: ご、ごめんなさい…\n少し一人にしてください…

Joker: ………… / ジョーカー: …………

Translation end!

Translation notes: In my interpretation, Joker is trying to be as kind as he possibly can to save Sakura here, but it’s to no avail as she eventually attacks herself. It’s a rather sad dialogue. That’s why I translated 厳しいこと (kibishii koto) as harsh reality, because kibishii is often used to mean strict or mean and koto can have the meaning of “reality.” Got any ideas on how to improve this? Let me hear all your constructive criticism and feedback below.

Comments? Questions? Criticisms? Want to let me if I made a typo or if a better approach would work somewhere? Let me know in the comments below.

Translation start:

Sakura: ………… / サクラ:…………

Joker: Princess Sakura. Judging from the color of your face, you don’t look well. / ジョーカー: サクラ王女。顔色が優れないようですが。

Sakura: Joker … e-er … / サクラ: ジョーカーさん…あ、あの…

I went out to town … it looks like I got a little tired … / 町へ出ていたので…少し疲れてしまったみたいです…

Joker: So you went again. / ジョーカー: また、行っていたのですね。

To tend to the wounds of our people who were dragged into the war. / 戦に巻き込まれて怪我を負った民たちのところへ。

Sakura: … Y, yes. / サクラ: …は、はい。

Joker: I think it truly wonderful that you would think of seeing to our people. / ジョーカー: 民を見舞いたいというお気持ちはとても素晴らしいと思います。

However, Princess Sakura, your pure heart will not hold out long if you so frequently see to them. / しかし、そう頻繁に通っていては、サクラ王女のお心が持ちません。

Please do think of yourself, I implore you. / どうか、ご自愛いただけるようお願いいたします。

Sakura: B-b-but … it’s my fault … that those people are … / サクラ: で、で、でも…私たちのせいで…あの人たちは…

Joker: Even if that were true, there’s no need for you to bear everything on your back. / ジョーカー: たとえそうだとしても、サクラ王女が全てを背負う必要はありません。

Sakura: S-so then … who are you suggesting is going to bear the responsibility? / サクラ: で、では…誰が責を負うというのですか?

Joker: ………… / ジョーカー: …………

Sakura: I-I’m sorry … S-Saying such arrogant things … / サクラ: ご、ごめんなさい…\nわ、私、偉そうなことを…

Joker: No … Let me apologize. / ジョーカー: いえ…私の方こそ申し訳ありませんでした。

Sakura: U-uh … I’m sorry very tired, so … I’m just going to go, all right … I’m sorry … / サクラ: あ、あの…疲れてしまったので…もう、行きますね…\nごめんなさい…

Joker: ………… / ジョーカー: …………

Translation end!

Translation notes: Joker is of course using polite Japanese, and at the same time Sakura isn’t impolite either, but she is a princess, so she rarely needs to address anyone as of a higher station than her and thus can afford to be a little less formal. I must admit, I had seizures trying to translation 心が持ちません (kokoro ga mochimasen), which has a lot of meanings. It can mean you’re getting depressed or you’re letting the stress get the best of you, or you’re feeling like you can’t go on. Since Joker uses a specially polite and kind form of the expression I put “pure heart” and tried to find an English expression that would allow the reader the widest variety of interpretations along those lines. Anything you think I should correct or make better? Let me know in the comments below!
