Today’s Goals and Jobs – 4/6/2016

Here my goals and the jobs I’m working on for 4/6/2016.  Thanks again to everybody who is helping out. It’s always appreciated. Remember to follow me on Twitter to get more updates.

What’s Going On

I met my goal of translating 5+ support conversations, another skinship dialogue and responding to feedback! I’m getting pretty consistent, I think:

Belka x Benoit C

Belka x Benoit B

Belka x Benoit A

Belka x Benoit S

Belka x Marx S

Kazahana x Tsukuyomi C

Hisame’s Skinship Dialogue List

I also posted an article about increasing standards of strictness when enforcing laws meant to “protect the children” in Japan. Read about it here.

Today’s Goals

  • Continue translating what I can
  • I hope to start some new polls soon, but I’m pretty sure I’ll have to do it tomorrow

Possible Complications: I’ve got a pretty big job I must complete today, so that will eat into translation time. When you do see the translation they’ll probably be later on.

How you can help out: Any help you can give polishing the translations above or the ones I’ve done before is always greatly appreciated. You can see updates for all the changes I’m making in the Changelog.

Jobs I Need Done

  • As always, feedback on translations and polls is always appreciated.
  • Since nobody is going to the Project Help page to chime in about honorifics in Byakuya Kingdom, I figure I’ll create a poll page. I think it will go up tomorrow, please remember to participate.
  • It would be nice to know how to do in-page links so I can link to a specific character listed on the character page as it grows, but I’m not sure how to accomplish that within WordPress. If you know how, let me know someway.

As always, there’s a page to discuss matter with others or contact me about how they’d like to help out with the Fire Emblem Fates project. It’s been updated to a new page for April. You can use that page for April to discuss things with other members in a more general nature. Thank you for all the people who contacted me or contributed so far! Much love and respect! As well, don’t forget there’s also a page for you to request any kind of Japanese information you need, regardless of whether it’s about Fire Emblem Fates or not. This page has also been updated for April.

Today’s Goals and Jobs – 4/5/2016

Here my goals and the jobs I’m working on for 4/5/2016.  Thanks again to everybody who is helping out. It’s always appreciated. Remember to follow me on Twitter to get more updates.

What’s Going On

I met my goal of translating 5+ support conversations, another skinship dialogue and responding to feedback! Woo, I think I’m getting the hang of this:

Belka x Marx C

Belka x Marx B

Belka x Marx A

Leon x Marx C

Leon x Marx B

Leon x Marx A

Flannel’s Skinship Dialogue List

Since the Star Ocean 5 interview was so long and I couldn’t complete it at all and do Fire Emblem stuff and complete my workload, I decided to split it into two parts and upload the next part later in the week. Part 1 is here.

Today’s Goals

  • Mostly consistency, doing 5+ support conversations plus skinship dialogue
  • Respond to feedback and update translations with corrections
  • I hope to start some new polls soon, but I’m not sure if I get to it today

Possible Complications: Gotta get that payola to keep this site going, you know! So of course, today like Friday and Sunday involves completing freelance work and managing time here.

How you can help out: Any help you can give polishing the translations above or the ones I’ve done before is always greatly appreciated. You can see updates for all the changes I’m making in the Changelog.

Fire Emblem Fates Support Conversation: Leon x Marx A

Please Note: The following material obviously spoils some of the story of Fire Emblem Fates. Please read responsibly at your own risk and kupo!

Here’s the support conversation between Leon and Marx for the A level. (Original Japanese is included for reference and better transparency.)

Comments? Questions? Criticisms? Want to let me if I made a typo or if a better approach would work somewhere? Let me know in the comments below.

Translation start:

Marx: Leon, can we talk for a bit? /

… the other day you opened up to me and I thank you for that. Allow me to answer your feelings with my thoughts. / …

Leon: … O-okay. /

Marx: It’s about when you were telling me about our younger days … /

I felt a small sense of relief that when I found out that you had chosen to follow the path of the mage. /

Leon: Marx, why? /

Marx: I have always felt a pressure pushing against my back.

Leon: Pressure? /

Marx: A pressure that you would come from behind and outstrip me.

Leon: What?

Marx: You said that you were jealous of me. Except, I was also jealous of you.

Leon: … Marx. … You don’t have to lie to make me feel better. /

Marx: It’s not a lie. You don’t understand anything. /

Leon: ? /

Marx: It looked like you were worrying that you were inferior to me in various ways … /

But you’ve got less experience because you’re younger than me. That some things should be inferior would be natural. /

… You said it. That when we were little, I could do anything. / …

Leon: Yes … /

Marx: That’s just because I was older. It’s the natural order of things. /

Nevertheless, you grew at a frighteningly quick pace, in every area you pursued me.

I could make no excuses if the older brother of the family was inferior to you.

That’s why I put my blood and tears into doing the best I could. To secure the proper image of an older brother. /

Leon: I … I can’t believe that.

Marx: It is neither lie, nor falsehood, but the truth. /

There’s no reason for you to feel like you’re behind me.

So shout out your opinions in the war council. That would be best for us all.

Leon: ………… /

… I understand. / …

From now on, I’m going to be more proactive. To the point that you view me as a threat! /

Marx: Heh, those are reassuring words. I’ll be depending on you, Leon. /

Translation end!

Translation notes: Marx is neither formal or informal, but somewhere in the middle. Sometimes he talks in a lofty tone and at other times, he talks like a normal guy, so if you sense there isn’t a consistency in the way he speaks, I’m trying to reflect the Japanese. Regardless, have any suggestions, comments, criticisms? Let me know in the comments below!

Fire Emblem Fates Support Conversation: Leon x Marx B

Please Note: The following material obviously spoils some of the story of Fire Emblem Fates. Please read responsibly at your own risk and it’s a horrible night to have diarrhea.

Here’s the support conversation between Leon and Marx for the B level. (Original Japanese is included for reference and better transparency.)

Comments? Questions? Criticisms? Want to let me if I made a typo or if a better approach would work somewhere? Let me know in the comments below.

Translation start:

Marx: … Leon. Do you have a minute?  /

Leon: What’s up?

Marx: You said something strange. That you and me were different. /

Leon: Er, sorry about that, really. It just came out of nowhere, didn’t mean it to.

Marx: No … what you’ve said is right.

You’re a different human being than I. We’re not the same.

You have your own merits. There’s no need to mimic me.

Leon: ………… /

… Say. Remember when we were little and would do sword practice with everyone? / …

Marx: Yeah. /

Leon: You could do everything and anything, but I couldn’t …… /

There was a time when I was jealous of my big brother. /

Leon: At first, we had to practice in everything … from swordplay to magic to martial arts. /

But Marx, you took on the sword and I took up on the path of magic. /

Why did I not take up the sword? …. The reason is simple. /

It’s because I thought I’d not want to walk to the same path as my brother. /

I was afraid of being compared to you …

Marx: Leon … /

Leon: You and I are different. There’s no point in comparing us.

I know that. I know it, but it’s no good.

… No matter what I do, I think about it. You, my big brother, that is. /…

Leon: It’s a pain to have such a whiny little brother, I know … Sorry. / …

Marx: No, no …

Translation end!

Translation notes: Leon uses the word ひねくれた (hinekureta) which means usually a good word for someone that is a little off from the rest of the family or society, somebody who is a little bit of a misanthrope. These people tend to have the reputation of whiners in Japanese society, so that’s why I translated it as that. Perhaps there’s a better way though. If you have an idea or any other suggestions, as always let me know in the comments below.

Fire Emblem Fates Support Conversation: Leon x Marx C

Please Note: The following material obviously spoils some of the story of Fire Emblem Fates. Please read responsibly at your own risk and the night is dark and full of pedophiles.

Here’s the support conversation between Leon and Marx for the C level. (Original Japanese is included for reference and better transparency.)

Comments? Questions? Criticisms? Want to let me if I made a typo or if a better approach would work somewhere? Let me know in the comments below.

Translation start:

Marx: Leon. Do you have a minute? We need to talk about the war council the other day.

Leon: About the war council? /

Marx: You raised your hand and were about to say something, but by the end, you stopped without saying anything. /

What was that all about?

Leon: Oh, that …

………… / …………

Marx: If you’re not pleased with my direction, I’d have you give me your personal suggestions without reserve. /

Leon: It would be meaningless if I did.

Marx: What are you saying? /

Leon: I mean the direction of the war council is something you, my big brother decide. /

In front of that, my suggestions are just …

Marx: What are you doing sitting on your ass feeling sorry for yourself for giving an opinion. I would not be intimidated by such things …/

Leon: I’m different from you, brother. /

Leon: … I’m kidding! Sorry, Marx. /

That’s my bad. I’ll keep that in mind from now on.

Marx: Leon … /

Translation end!

Translation notes: Is “That’s my bad.” too modern I wonder? What’s another expression that I could use that incorporates a feeling of it being Leon’s fault and means something like a casual apology? Is there one? If you have any suggestions or any other part you think needs improving, let me know in the comments below.
