Today’s Goals and Jobs – 4/2/2016

Here my goals and the jobs I’m working on for 4/2/2016.  Eternal gratitude to all the people who have reached out in support! Remember to follow me on Twitter to get more updates.

What’s Going On

Great success! I was able to translate and post a record seven support conversations yesterday, plus a list of Special Bonds dialogue that characters speak under certain conditions when you reach friendly conditions with them.

Aqua x Nishiki C

Aqua x Nishiki B

Aqua x Nishiki A

Aqua x Nishiki S

Lazwald x Soleil A

Asama x Nishiki B

Asama x Nishiki A

Anna Special Bonds Dialogue List.

Today’s Goals

  • 5+ support conversations
  • Start doing some more Skinship dialogue for the translation patch team
  • Complete and upload Fawful Friday articles

Possible Complications: Gotta finish some real paying jobs as usual. Rent’s due!

How you can help out: As always, I need feedback, even if it’s just to tell me that there’s nothing wrong with the translation. Of course you’re welcome to comment on any translation you wish, but if you see a translation with no comments, You can see updates for all the changes I’m making in the Changelog.

Jobs I Need Done

  • If you know of a place that would appreciate a link to Karasu Corps or a friend who would be interested in helping out, help spread the word!
  • As always, feedback on translations and polls is always appreciated.
  • On the Project Help page a discussion has been started about translating honorifics for Byakuya Kingdom’s characters, since they ostensibly take place in a fictional Japan. Go there (link right below this) and lend your thoughts to the conversation. I’ll of course change to whatever the strongest consensus is.

As always, there’s a page to discuss matter with others or contact me about how they’d like to help out with the Fire Emblem Fates project. It’s been updated to a new page for April. You can use that page for April to discuss things with other members in a more general nature. Thank you for all the people who contacted me or contributed so far! Much love and respect! As well, don’t forget there’s also a page for you to request any kind of Japanese information you need, regardless of whether it’s about Fire Emblem Fates or not. This page has also been updated for April.

I’ll never stop loving you … ever. /

Translation end!

Translation notes: Now OF COURSE Soleil is joking when she’s talking about hitting on him or him seducing her. OF COURSE she’s just teasing him. I hope that comes across in the translation. Since it’s so obvious it’s a joke, I really do have to wonder at Nintendo oversensitivity by removing it. Instead, they changed it to make her look like a lesbian. Oh Nintendo. In any event, is there anything I can do to improve this translation? Let me know in the comments below.

If you want to see the Nintendo translation, the Fire Emblem fans at Serene’s Forest have transcribed the official translation of this conversation here.

Changelog: None yet.

Today’s Goals and Jobs – 3/30/2016

Here my goals and the jobs I’m working on for 3/30/2016.  Allow me to bestow eternal gratitude to all the people who continue to help me *twinkle twinkle*! Remember to follow me on Twitter to get more updates.

What’s Going On

It’s been one week since we started! And we’ve come quite a ways! Yay! Thanks to all who helped so far.

Yesterday, I completed my goal to post at least five new support conversations, but I wasn’t able to complete more than that. The conversations I did yesterday are as follows:

Aqua x Ryoma S

Aqua x Asama C

Aqua x Asama B

Aqua x Asama A

Lazwald x Soleil B

I completed my goal to start doing skinship lines. The first is Aqua here. Aqua has perhaps the most lines, voiced and unvoiced, beside the main character, so if you’re wondering why there’s so much emphasis on her, that’s why.

I completed my goal of feedback responses and continued to edit translations to better reflect English fluency. You can find where I’ve made changes on the Changelog.

I also published a small article about Ubisoft confirming that CERO is behind their censorship of the Japanese versions of their games.

Today’s Goals

  • Get some translation done. I’m keeping it open today because I have lots of real life work to do (gotta eat!) and I don’t know how much I’ll be able to get to. Maybe it’ll be a lot. Maybe it’ll be a little. I’m sure there will be days like this, but fear not, my resolve shall never waver!

How you can help out: As always, if you can put mistakes and better ways to translate awkward areas in my translations, that would be most helpful. As As well, if I’ve made a change to a translation that you strongly disagree with, let me know. You can updates for all the changes I’m making in the Changelog.

Jobs I Need Done

  • As mentioned above, there’s a new Feedback page about the name for a hidden world, please leave me a comment on what you think it should be translated as.
  • As always, I need people to spread the word, so we can get as much help as possible!
  • You know what I’m going to say! I need feedback wherever solicited or on relevant translation pages!
  • There is an issue with the text resources for this game, especially where it comes to Skinship. There aren’t any for what seems to be the voice-acted lines and so I need help finding where I can get a complete set of these. Someone is helping behind the scenes to see if they can get those lines another way, but in the event that doesn’t work, I need an alternative.

Thank you in advance for any help you give and may the ravens always smile upon you!

As always, there’s a page to discuss or contact me about how they’d like to help out with the Fire Emblem Fates project. You can use that page for the remaining days of March to discuss things with other members in a more general nature. Thank you for all the people who contacted me or contributed so far! Much love and respect! As well, don’t forget there’s also a page for you to request any kind of Japanese information you need, regardless of whether it’s about Fire Emblem Fates or not.

Fire Emblem Fates Support Conversation: Lazwald x Soleil B

Please Note: The following material obviously spoils some of the story of Fire Emblem Fates. Please read responsibly at your own risk and Gummi Bears, bouncing here and there and everywhere.

Here’s the support conversation between Lazwald and Soleil for the B level. (Original Japanese is included for reference and better transparency.)

Comments? Questions? Criticisms? Want to let me if I made a typo or if a better approach would work somewhere? Let me know in the comments below.

Translation start:

Lazwald: Soleil! Are you okay? Have they looked at your injuries yet? /

Soleil: Dad … I’m sorry. I said I’d help in battle, but …

I completely blew it. …

Lazwald: No you didn’t. /

More important than that, Soleil … why did you try to do something so dangerous? /

Darting in between the enemy and I … if you had been one step closer, you would might have died, you know?

Soleil: I-it’s because … I thought if I did nothing you’d be in danger! /

The other day when we went out for tea … /

You said you weren’t good at anticipating attacks from the back and to the side. /

And that soldier … tried to get you from that angle … /

Lazwald: Don’t make excuses, there’s no reason for you to hurt yourself, Soleil. /

Don’t worry about me. You ought to protect yourself on the battlefield. /

Soleil: N-no, no … I want to protect my dad. /

I don’t want you to die … /

Lazwald: And I don’t want you to die! Listen to your father! /

Soleil: I won’t listen to you …

Lazwald: …Soleil! /

Soleil: You don’t understand me, dad!! You never understand my feelings! /

Lazwald: Huh … ? /

Soleil: I … to tell the truth, I was lonely. I was scared for so long.

Every time I’d see your departing figure return here from the Deeprealms, /

I thought, “Maybe this is it, maybe he’s not coming back this time.”

And that’s why … once we were able to fight together, I wanted to protect you.

You can’t, you just can’t, I don’t want you die! /

I understand that …

Soleil: No you don’t … /

Lazwald: I do, you know. I understand what you’re feeling, Soleil. /

You see, I … lost my parents in war when I was just a little boy. /

Dad went off to fight and never returned. Mom died in front of me, holding me in her arms … /

Soleil: !! /

Lazwald: That’s why I was so utterly mortified when I saw that. I thought you might day just like my parents did.

But, you were afraid of it happening to me. I’m sorry I caused you so much pain. /

You saved me … and here you are safe yourself, so thanks. /

Soleil: Dad … you felt the same way I did … ?

Lazwald: Oh yeah. You see, ever since I became your father … /

I came to understand how my dad and mom felt back then.

The desperate desire to protect your children. /

Yes, even if you die in their stead. /

Soleil: Die in my … no!

Lazwald: I know. I know. That’s why I’m not going to die. /

I promise you that.

Soleil: You say that, but … a promise doesn’t mean much on the battlefield … /

Lazwald: You think my promises are meaningless? Soleil … do you not trust me?

Soleil: It’s not that … it’s just …

Lazwald: Thank you. I believe in you too.

Because you believe that you won’t lose to any enemy … I’ll be able to fight reliably on the battlefield. /

Soleil: Dad … /

Lazwald: That’s why you have to think only of yourself. And you absolutely cannot die. /

Because I absolutely will not die … you need to believe. /

… Okay. I’ll believe. I won’t try something like that again. /…

Lazwald: Soleil … /

Soleil: So that means … you’re going to be with me from now on and forever. You’re not going anywhere, mister, hear me?

If you ever go to some place where I can’t see you again, you’re going to have one unhappy daughter! /

Lazwald: … Right. Of course, I’ll always be by your side. /

Forever, if you should desire. /

Soleil: Yaaay! /

Translation end!

Translation notes: This one’s got a lot of context in the Japanese that I feel you have to fill in the English, when they’re referring to different things, but not outright saying them. Also, how many times in one dialogue can the writers use だから (dakara)? It’s like their favorite word. I wonder if they’re big fans of the drink? Anyway, let me know what I can improve in the comments below!

Today’s Goals and Jobs – 3/29/2016

Here my goals and the jobs I’m working on for 3/29/2016.  Eternal gratitude to all the people who have reached out in support! Remember to follow me on Twitter to get more updates.

What’s Going On

I completed my goal to post at least five new support conversations and begin ramping up for more than that. The conversations I did yesterday are as follows:

Aqua x Ryoma C

Aqua x Ryoma B

Aqua x Ryoma A

Felicia x Kazahana A

Kazahana x Saizou S

Lazwald x Soleil C

I completed my goal to start the main story, I’ll be dividing up each chapter into pre-battle, mid-battle and post-battle. For now I’ve done the introduction Chapter 0 Pre-Battle.

I also posted a feedback page on the issue what to name what is called 秘境 in the Japanese version. I’m not sure Nintendo’s Deeprealms translation is the best or that people want it, so if you’ve got an opinion, head on over and let me know.

I completed my goal of responding to your feedback continued to edit translations to better reflect English fluency. You can find where I’ve made changes on the Changelog.

Today’s Goals

  • Keep trying to up the amount of support conversations I can do in a day, though at least remain consistent at five.
  • Respond to constructive criticism and feedback and implement suggested relevant changes to current translations
  • Start translating the Live 2D character dialogue (when they talk to you in first person CG scenes)

How you can help out: As always, I need help polishing my translations, so if you’ve suggestions or criticisms, they are ALL welcome. As well, if I’ve made a change to a translation that you strongly disagree with, let me know.

Thank you in advance for any help you give and may the ravens always smile upon you!

Fire Emblem Fates Support Conversation: Lazwald x Soleil C

Please Note: The following material obviously spoils some of the story of Fire Emblem Fates. Please read responsibly at your own risk and don’t let the trees eat your kite.

Edited to version 2.0 with reader feedback. (You can find the original version replicated below.) Here’s the support conversation between Lazwald and Soleil for the C level. (Original Japanese is included for reference and better transparency.)

Translation start:

Lazwald: Lalala…  /

Soleil: Don’t beat yourself up so much. Everyone’s got things they’re suited for.

I mean, if you look at it, unlike you, I can’t dance at all. Never really had the talent for it.

Kind of like you and flirting. /

Lazwald: S-Soleil … you wound me!

Well, if dad’s going to lose, it’s best if he does it to his cute daughter. /

Soleil: Ahaha. Here it comes, the dorky dad pride. /

Lazwald: Dorky dad? How rude! /

It’s because I really do think you’re cute that I say it, you know.

Soleil: Oh, I see how it goes! That’s how you reeled in mom, huh? /

Speaking of mom, I’ve always wanted to ask … how did your proposal to her go?

Lazwald: Er … ! T-that’d be too embarrassing to talk about …

Soleil: Don’t worry, hearing the story of how your parents fell in love is a lot more embarrassing for me than it is you.

Lazwald: Well then, you don’t have to ask, do you?

Soleil: Ehehe. Can’t blame me for being happy. /

Being able to talk to you like this.

This type of thing was impossible when I was in the Deeprealms. /

Lazwald: Ah, I’m sorry Soleil, to have forced such a lonely life on you …

Soleil: Nah, don’t let it bother you.

After all, I’m just happy to be able to be with you.

Lazwald: Ahaha, thank you.

How about it? Want to go out for tea and spend some time with dad? /

Soleil: Yes, let’s go, let’s go!

I’ve got so many things I want to ask you about.

The trick to looking cool while fighting and stuff like that.

I’m finally here, so I might as well help out in battle! /

Lazwald: Battle … huh? /

Truth be told, I’m not sure I want to have you doing anything dangerous … /

Soleil: Such nonsense! /

Waiting around and doing nothing is totally out of the question! /

You’re my father, you should know that part of me best, right?

Lazwald: Hehe, right … … Well, shall we go?

Soleil: You bet! /

Translation end!

Translation notes: The expression 何言ってるの? is closer to something derisive like “What nonsense” or “What an idiotic thing to say” these days than it is to it’s literal meaning of “What are you saying?” Other than that, I’m searching for a good/better term for Deeprealms that might be an improvement over the Treehouse won. You can help me out by leaving feedback here. All other comments and criticisms are welcome below, ho ho ho!

If you want to see how Nintendo tried to make lesbian happen, the Fire Emblem fans at Serene’s Forest have transcribed the official translation of this conversation here.

Changelog: 3/29/2016 Changed some things due to constructive criticism from Immahnoob. The original translated lines are below:

Truth be told, not sure I want to have you doing dangerous things …

Today’s Goals and Jobs – 3/26/2016

Here my goals and the jobs I’m working on for 3/26/2016.  Thanks again for all your detailed comments and feedback! Remember you can follow me on Twitter to get more updates.

What’s Going On

I completed my goal of creating a master list where you can find all currently translated material for Fire Emblem Fates. Hopefully, this will make it easier to navigate the site as more and more content gets uploaded.

I completed my goal to start translating other parts of the game. I started with the Arena Messages List.

I completed my goal to respond to people’s feedback and edit translations for greater fluency. These changes can be found on the Changelog.

I completed my goal to post at least five new support conversations, and finished uploading two more complete sets of support conversations, which are Lazwald x Luna and Rinka x Saizou. The conversations I did yesterday are as follows:

Lazwald x Luna S

Rinka x Saizou C

Rinka x Saizou B

Rinka x Saizou A

Rinka x Saizou S

Today’s Goals

  • Continue to upload at least five more pages of support conversations, to continue to be consistent
  • Post the first Fawful Friday posts. Fawful Friday is where I post translations that are not related to Fire Emblem Fates, but to the wider realm of Japanese-related things. I’ll be uploading some of my past stuff and translating an interview 4Gamer did with CERO, the ratings board for Japanese games. If you don’t know who Fawful is, this video should explain things to you.
  • To get a little more done with the work in the Current Requests page, which is now updated with the requests I’ve gotten.

Possible complications: I’ve got a lot of work to do today. Hopefully I can get it all done and it’s not too much.

For that reason, I’m going to hold off from replying to comments and editing translations for today, just so I can focus on these areas. Please understand that I am not ignoring you guys’ fantastic contributions, there are just times when I need to focus on other things. Please continue to give feedback, because I do see it and note it and appreciate it and I will get around to implementing it.

As well, I’ve decided that in order to not burn out, I’ll take every Saturday off for rest, because it’s my favorite day of the week. I hope this doesn’t offend you, but I think I’ll need it as time goes on and the grind gets more serious. I will devote a lot of Sunday to implementing your ideas and changes to the scripts.

How you can help out: Provide constructive criticism about the translations I post. Provide continuing feedback about site issues and what you’d like to see me focus on next in the translation. Tell me if the Fawful Friday things I post are informative, or if you’d like to see me focus on a different area.

Jobs I Need Done

  • I need people to spread the word, so we can get as much help as possible!
  • As always I need feedback wherever solicited or on relevant translation pages!
  • If some kind soul would provide the number of My Castle system menu dumps for different facilities/gameplay menus I need to translate, I would be eternally grateful.

Much love and kisses! As well, don’t forget there’s also a page for you to request any kind of Japanese information you need, regardless of whether it’s about Fire Emblem Fates or not.

Lazwald: Luna, I have a gift for you today! /

Luna:  Lazwald … what’s with you all of a sudden? /

Lazwald: This bracelet … I wonder, will you accept it?

Luna: !! That … b-bracelet … /

Lazwald: I’ve always kept it safe, so that I might one day pass it on to you.

Luna:  B-but, why now … why give it to me now?

Lazwald:  Ahaha! Why do you think? /

Luna: I’m the one asking the questions here! Tell me why you’re doing this!  Right now!

Lazwald: Okay … well, I thought about it a lot … /

And I concluded that I’m in love with you. I want to be with you forever./

Luna: …………

Lazwald: And so I thought to give you this bracelet. /

Luna: I got that part of it!

You really thought … you want to be together forever? Are you sure?/

Lazwald: Yep. I’m sure! /

Luna: So you’ve got the bracelet … that you want to give me …

I mean … come on … don’t you have something else to tell me?

Lazwald: I don’t know? What could you possibly be talking about?

Luna: Erg, I just can’t stand it anymore! Why are you so thick? /

Lazwald: Ahaha, it’s a joke, Luna. /

Luna: A j-joke? /

Lazwald:  I do love you. Consider this bracelet my vow of love to you.

Lazwald: So can you see it in your heart to maybe … marry me?

Luna:  Finally! Why don’t you just say it honestly from the beginning! /

Lazwald: Well … will you give me your answer? /

Luna:  I-I … what could I say … it’s … /

We’ve known each for so long, y-you know what my answer is without me even saying it!

Lazwald: Nope. I don’t. Not if you don’t say it out loud. /

Luna:  Ugh … you’re such a tease … /

Even though you know very well … what my feelings are …

Lazwald:  Ahaha, come on, let me hear it. I can’t wait! /

Luna: ………… /

I-I … love you … too …

I always have … I always will, no matter where we end up … I love you.

Lazwald: Mm-hmm … /

Luna:  So … I guess I have nothing better to do than let you marry me!

Lazwald: Thank you … ! With this promise, we’ll … never be torn apart from each other.

Luna:  W-well said … but I’m warning you, if you don’t make me happy, you’ll never hear the end of it …

Lazwald: I know, I know. I’ll definitely make you happy, your highness! /

Translation end!

Translation notes: I’ve heard on American television shows when people are talking about a couple that’s about to be married, one person will say, “Make her happy, man” or something to that effect. So I translated it 100% literally on the last lines there, because there really isn’t much of a difference between the two from my experience. Do I have that wrong? Am I misunderstanding it? Also the part where Luna says, “Despite the fact,” she uses a Japanese expression which is supposed to put blame and criticism on the person she’s speaking about, but I feel like “despite the fact” is too formal and debate-like for her/the context of the scene. Is there some other expression I can use? As always let me know in the comments below and thank you for your continued support!

Changelog: 8/18/2016 Thanks to Immahnoob, Sirixu and DJ Deadly Skillz, several lines have been updated to better reflect English fluency and several typos and grammar mistakes have been corrected. Version 1.0 or the original unedited translated lines are represented below:

Lazwald: After all that thought, I came to the conclusion that I love you. I want to be with you forever.

Luna: What’s a j-joke?

Luna: Despite the fact that you know very well … what my feelings are …

Lazwald: It’s this bracelet … I wonder if you’ll accept it?

Luna: You really thought … you wanted to be together with me forever, are you sure?

What I mean to say is … come on … don’t you have something else to tell me?

Lazwald: Well … will you tell me your answer?

Lazwald: Nope. Don’t know. Not if you don’t tell me out loud.

If you want to see how Nintendo changed this and randomly inserted Odin into the conversation out of the blue again, the Fire Emblem fans at Serene’s Forest have transcribed this conversation here.

Today’s Goals and Jobs – 3/25/2016

Here my goals and the jobs I’m working on for 3/25/2016.  Before I get started, I want to give a gratitude-filled thank you to all the people so far who have pitched in! Remember you can follow me on Twitter to get more updates.

What’s Going On

I completed my goal to post at least five new support conversations, and finished uploading the first complete set of support conversations, which is Rinka x Tsubaki. The conversations I did yesterday are as follows:

Lazwald x Luna B

Lazwald x Luna A

Rinka x Tsubaki B

Rinka x Tsubaki A

Rinka x Tsubaki S

I also made a post asking for feedback on issues like portraying the selectable personality type/politeness level here.

Today’s Goals

  • Respond to comments and constructive criticism
  • Continue to upload at least five more pages of support conversations, I’d like to continue for a little while like this to and then ramp up, just to make sure I can be consistently successfully instead of setting unrealistic goals
  • Create a master list where people can access all the parts of the translation
  • Start incorporating people’s feedback and revise the currently done translations
  • Start translating other parts of the game

Possible Complications: I have the “we are Siamese if you please” song from Lady & the Tramp stuck in my head. Whenever I get a song stuck in my head, I have the bad habit of unconsciously typing the lyrics out, so if you see something “do you see that thing swimming round and round, maybe we could reach in and make it drown” pop into a translation somewhere, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

How you can help out: Provide constructive criticism about the translations I post. Provide continuing feedback about site issues and what you’d like to see me focus on next in the translation.

Jobs I Need Done

Fire Emblem Fates Support Conversation: Lazwald x Luna A

Please Note: The following material obviously spoils some of the story of Fire Emblem Fates. Please read responsibly at your own risk and where’s Waldo?

Lazwald: Hey, Luna. /

Luna: Lazwald … /

Lazwald: You totally got me the last time we met! /

I thought I was going to die to from embarrassment if you stared at me like that any longer! /

Luna: Y-yeah well about that … I’m sorry. /

Lazwald: You’ve got this downtrodden look about you? What’s this all about?

It’s not like you to just meekly apologize, Luna … are you coming down with something? /

Luna: What! How rude! I’ve no fever! /

It’s just … maybe I’ve been thinking about old times … /

………… / …………

Lazwald:  I guess remembering the world we came from has put you in a somber mood? /

Luna: I-I’m not in a somber mood! But now that you mention our world …

It’s been such a long time since our rightful place, if you can call it that, was taken from us.

… There’s no point in bringing it up now. I’m fine … it doesn’t bother me at all. / …

Lazwald: Luna … /

………… /  …………

I guess if you think about it, we’ve come a long way, haven’t we?

Sometimes I remember it too. The world we were born in.

No matter how much we fight here, we’re never getting it back …

Even now, I’ll think of it. About how great it would be if everyone could return home … /

Luna: Lazwald …

Lazwald: Don’t look at me like that. Look, what I want to say is …

I understand how you feel when you get homesick, Luna! /

Luna: I thought I already told you I’m not lonely! /

Lazwald: Ahaha. My bad, my bad! /

Luna: C-certainly there are times when I feel a little … tiny bit homesick, but …

Lazwald: But what?

Luna: I guess you’re here with me … maybe that’s why I don’t feel alone … /

Lazwald: That’s the spirit. I’ll stick with you wherever you go, Luna! /

So come on, put on your usual smile! Smile! /

Luna:  W-whenever I’m with you, I’m more likely to be enraged than smiling! /

Lazwald:  Ahaha! It has always been that way, hasn’t it?

Hey, if it’s worth anything to you, I’ll always be by your side. /

Luna: D-don’t get the wrong idea! It’s just my rotten luck that fate has saddled me with you!

Lazwald: Rotten luck is still luck, you know. If you need something, you can confide in me anytime. /

Luna: H-hmph! The way you get all pumped up about it really gets my goat … /

But … yeah … / でも…その…

… thanks. You cheered me up … just a little bit. / …

Lazwald: Cool, no problem. /

Translation end!

Translation notes: If you ask me, this is why it’s important to keep in Lazwald’s reference to the world they came from and the line about changes in the original C conversation.

If you want to see the way Nintendo inserted Odin into the conversation out of the blue, the Fire Emblem fans at Serene’s Forest have transcribed this conversation here.

Changelog: 8/18/2016 Various typo corrections were made, as well as line changes due to the gracious and thorough comments from anonf4321. Version 1.0, or the original unedited lines are included below for your reference:

Lazwald:  So maybe remembering the world we came from has got you in a downer mood?

Luna: I-I’m not in any “downer mood!” But when you say the world we came from …

… Bringing it up now, after all this time makes no difference. It’s fine … doesn’t bother me at all …

Lazwald: Yeah right. Look, what I want to say is …

That I know how you feel when you get homesick, Luna!

Luna: I thought I already told you I wasn’t feeling down!

Lazwald: That’s the spirit. I’m stuck on you wherever you go, Luna!
