Today’s Goals and Jobs – 4/4/2016

Here my goals and the jobs I’m working on for 4/2/2016.  Eternal gratitude to all the people who have reached out in support! Remember to follow me on Twitter to get more updates.

What’s Going On

I met my goal of translating a lot of support conversations, six to be exact, and another skinship dialogue list! Ryan’s got his groove back, baby! You can find them below:

Elfy x Elise B

Elfy x Elise A

Camilla x Odin C

Deere’s Skinship Dialogue List

As well, with Fawful Friday, I posted two past articles/translations I did: one, a summary of Japan Parliament member Taro Yamada’s response to the UN’s latest attack on free speech within manga, anime and games in Japan, and the other an older translated article about the Fire Emblem Fates localization controversy.

The last Fawful Friday article, a translation of an extremely long Star Ocean 5 interview at 4Gamer was so long I couldn’t finish it. Paying work got in the way and if the stars align, it should be done today, so check back this even if you were looking forward to that.

Today’s Goals

  • 5+ support conversations
  • Start doing some more Skinship dialogue for the translation patch team
  • Respond to feedback and update translations with corrections

Possible Complications: Work.

How you can help out: Of course, I always need help from English speakers to improve the English fluency in my translations. Perhaps there’s nothing you can suggest to improve? Even posting “This one looks okay” on a page with no comments will help me out, so if you’ve got a few spare moments, help me out! You can see updates for all the changes I’m making in the Changelog.

Jobs I Need Done

  • Know a Fire Emblem fan who would appreciate this place? Know somebody who wants to read accurate information about Japan or request it? Spread the word! I need all the eyes I can get.
  • As always, feedback on translations and polls is always appreciated.
  • On the Project Help page a discussion has been started about translating honorifics for Byakuya Kingdom’s characters, since they ostensibly take place in a fictional Japan. Go there (link right below this) and lend your thoughts to the conversation. I’ll of course change to whatever the strongest consensus is.

As always, there’s a page to discuss matter with others or contact me about how they’d like to help out with the Fire Emblem Fates project. It’s been updated to a new page for April. You can use that page for April to discuss things with other members in a more general nature. Thank you for all the people who contacted me or contributed so far! Much love and respect! As well, don’t forget there’s also a page for you to request any kind of Japanese information you need, regardless of whether it’s about Fire Emblem Fates or not. This page has also been updated for April.

Fire Emblem Fates Support Conversation: Camilla x Odin C

Please Note: The following material obviously spoils some of the story of Fire Emblem Fates. Please read responsibly at your own risk and tell me why you have a hidden dwarf in your basement.

Here’s the support conversation between Camilla and Odin for the C level. (Original Japanese is included for reference and better transparency.)

Comments? Questions? Criticisms? Want to let me if I made a typo or if a better approach would work somewhere? Let me know in the comments below.

Translation start:

Camilla: ………… / カミラ: …………

Odin: Lady Camilla, what’s wrong? You’ve got this expression on your face like things aren’t going well … / オーディン: カミラ様、どうしたんですか?なんだか表情が冴えないような…

Camilla: … Odin. No, it’s nothing. / カミラ: …オーディン。いえ、なんでもないわ。

Odin: Oh, all right then. If nothing’s wrong then … / オーディン: そうですか。それならいいんですけど…

Camilla: What about you, what’s with you? Did you need me for something?/ カミラ: それで、あなたはどうしたの?私に何か用かしら。

Odin: Ah, yes. There’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you for a while. / オーディン: ああ、そうでした。\n以前からお聞きしたいことがありまして。

Camilla: Okay, ask me anything. / カミラ: ええ、なんでも聞いてちょうだい。

Odin: Lady Camilla, your armor … what’s it called? / オーディン: カミラ様のその鎧…なんていう名前なんですか?

Camilla: What? Why? / カミラ: えっ?

You want to wear it? / どうして?あなたも着たいの?

Odin: Wear it … ?/ オーディン: 着る…!?

I-I never thought of that, but … how would it be to actually do what I’ve only seen in my dreams … / そ、その発想はなかった… だが、実際に夢想してみるとどうだ…

Though I think if I wore it I might be seen as a figure more beautiful than any angel under the sky … / 確かに俺がこれを着たら、絶空の彼方より天使が舞い降りる姿に見えるかもしれんな…

Camilla: Odin? What are you muttering about? / カミラ: オーディン?何をブツブツ言っているの?

Odin: Hmm? Oh, no … it’s nothing. / オーディン: へっ!?あ、いえ…なんでもありません!

I think my attention was distracted by the endless void of the sky … / ちょっと意識が虚空の彼方に惑ってしまって。

It’s actually because I’ve been interested in it for a while. You’ve got some cool armor, Lady Camilla. / 実は俺、ずっと興味を持ってたんですよ。カミラ様のかっこいい鎧に!

Camilla: Cool … armor? This? / カミラ: かっこいい…鎧?これが?

Odin: Yes! / オーディン: はい!

That distinct ebony luster … the unique shape … there’s nothing to criticize about it! / その独特な漆黒…個性的な形…非の打ちどころがありません!

I wonder what kind of supreme name must have been bestowed upon it … / いったいどんな崇高な名称がついているのだろうと…

My soul starts to throb just thinking about it! / それを考えるだけで、俺の魂が疼くんです!

Camilla: Hmmm … you mention a name, but … I’ve never had a reason to name it. / カミラ: うーん…名称って言われても…特に名前があるわけじゃないわ。

Odin: R-really, truly … ? That’s truly a … pity. / オーディン: そ、そうなんですか…!?それは何とも…もったいない。

Camilla: Okay you, please, give it a name. / カミラ: だったら、あなたが名前をつけてちょうだい。

Odin: No, really? That would be okay with you? / オーディン: えっ、ほんとですか!いいんですか!?

Camilla: Yes, I think you’d give it a lovely name. / カミラ: ええ、あなたならきっと素敵な名前を付けてくれるだろうし。

So I’ll be waiting for it, Odin. / 楽しみにしているわね、オーディン。

Odin: Sure! / オーディン: はい!

Translation end!

Translation notes: Odin likes her armor and his characters puts stock on things such as this, but he’s not being entirely serious here. If you’ve ever seen Camilla’s character model, you know why he got distracted during the conversation. I’m not sure if I conveyed that element of it well enough. What do you think? Let me know about this and others possible translations issues in the comments below.

If you want to see the goofy Nintendo translation, the Fire Emblem fans at Serene’s Forest have transcribed the official translation of this conversation here.

Changelog: None yet.
