Fire Emblem Fates Support Conversation: Joker x Sakura B

Please Note: The following material obviously spoils some of the story of Fire Emblem Fates. Please read responsibly at your own risk and don’t tell me I’m not an attack helicopter, dad, you don’t understand me.

Here’s the support conversation between Joker x Sakura for the B level. (Original Japanese is included for reference and better transparency.)

Comments? Questions? Criticisms? Want to let me if I made a typo or if a better approach would work somewhere? Let me know in the comments below.

Translation start:

Sakura: ………… /

Joker: You went there again. To those who have suffered wounds, to the side of our citizens. /

Sakura: Joker … /

Joker: Princess Sakura, you’re one who understands the pain of others. I have no desire to discourage your gentle ways. /

Sakura: Okay … /

Joker: But, if you burn yourself out, is it not putting the cart before the horse? /

Please, I’m asking you to treat yourself with as much respect as the citizens you visit to help. /

Sakura: B-but … A-as a princess … my people …

Allow me to deliver a harsh reality. /

Even if you were to run all over the place tending to the wounded, Princess Sakura, you can’t heal everyone’s wounds. /

Sakura: T-that is true … Even if I were to visit them …

It’s not like it will help them in the end. /

Joker: … Unfortunately, yes. /

Sakura: I-I … I just wanted to ease my conscience … /

Maybe that’s why I went to see t-them …

I-I wanted others to say I’m looking after them as I should …

And I wanted … to think I was doing that too …

Joker: Oh, Princess Sakura … /

Sakura: I-I’m sorry … I need to be alone for a bit …

Translation end!

Translation notes: In my interpretation, Joker is trying to be as kind as he possibly can to save Sakura here, but it’s to no avail as she eventually attacks herself. It’s a rather sad dialogue. That’s why I translated 厳しいこと (kibishii koto) as harsh reality, because kibishii is often used to mean strict or mean and koto can have the meaning of “reality.” Got any ideas on how to improve this? Let me hear all your constructive criticism and feedback below.
