Fire Emblem Fates Support Conversation: Leon x Marx B

Please Note: The following material obviously spoils some of the story of Fire Emblem Fates. Please read responsibly at your own risk and it’s a horrible night to have diarrhea.

Here’s the support conversation between Leon and Marx for the B level. (Original Japanese is included for reference and better transparency.)

Translation start:

Marx: … Leon. Do you have a minute?  / マークス:  …レオン。少しいいか。

Leon: What’s up? / レオン: なんだい?

Marx: You said something strange. That you and me were different. / マークス: お前は言ったな。私とお前は違うと。

Leon: Er, sorry about that, really. It just came out of nowhere, didn’t mean it to. / レオン: ああ、あのことなら本当にごめん。つい言ってしまっただけなんだ。

Marx: No … what you’ve said is right. / マークス: いや…お前の言っていることは正しい。

You’re a different human being than I. We’re not the same. / お前と私は違う人間だ。同じではない。

You have your own merits. There’s no need to mimic me. / お前にはお前のよさがある。私を真似る必要はないのだ。

Leon: ………… / レオン: …………

… Say. Remember when we were little and would do sword practice with everyone? / …ねえ。小さい頃、みんなで稽古をしたのを覚えてる?

Marx: Yeah. / マークス: ああ。

Leon: You could do everything and anything, but I couldn’t …… / レオン: マークス兄さんはなんでもできたけど、僕はそうじゃなくて……

There was a time when I was jealous of my big brother. / マークス兄さんを妬んだこともあった。

Marx: ………… / マークス: …………

Leon: At first, we had to practice in everything … from swordplay to magic to martial arts. / レオン: 僕たちは最初、剣も魔道も体術も…まんべんなく稽古していたよね。

But Marx, you took on the sword and I took up on the path of magic. / でも、マークス兄さんは剣を取り、僕は魔道を取った。

Why did I not take up the sword? …. The reason is simple. / どうして僕が剣を取らなかったか…その理由は簡単だ。

It’s because I thought I’d not want to walk to the same path as my brother. / 兄さんと同じ道には行きたくないと思ったからだ。

I was afraid of being compared to you … / 僕は、兄さんと比べられることが怖かった…

Marx: Leon … / マークス: レオン…

Leon: You and I are different. There’s no point in comparing us. / レオン: 僕とマークス兄さんは違う。比べることに意味なんてない。

I know that. I know it, but it’s no good. / そんなことわかってる。わかってるけどダメなんだ。

… No matter what I do, I think about it. You, my big brother, that is. /…どうしても意識してしまうんだ。マークス兄さんのことを。

Marx: ………… / マークス: …………

Leon: It’s a pain to have such a whiny little brother, I know … Sorry. / レオン: ひねくれた弟を持つと苦労するよね。…ごめん。

Marx: No, no … / マークス: いや…

Translation end!

Translation notes: Leon uses the word ひねくれた (hinekureta) which means usually a good word for someone that is a little off from the rest of the family or society, somebody who is a little bit of a misanthrope. These people tend to have the reputation of whiners in Japanese society, so that’s why I translated it as that. Perhaps there’s a better way though. If you have an idea or any other suggestions, as always let me know in the comments below.
