Translation start:

Marx: Leon, can we talk for a bit? /

… the other day you opened up to me and I thank you for that. Allow me to answer your feelings with my thoughts. / …

Leon: … O-okay. /

Marx: It’s about when you were telling me about our younger days … /

I felt a small sense of relief that when I found out that you had chosen to follow the path of the mage. /

Leon: Marx, why? /

Marx: I have always felt a pressure pushing against my back.

Leon: Pressure? /

Marx: A pressure that you would come from behind and outstrip me.

Leon: What?

Marx: You said that you were jealous of me. Except, I was also jealous of you.

Leon: … Marx. … You don’t have to lie to make me feel better. /

Marx: It’s not a lie. You don’t understand anything. /

Leon: ? /

Marx: It looked like you were worrying that you were inferior to me in various ways … /

But you’ve got less experience because you’re younger than me. That some things should be inferior would be natural. /

… You said it. That when we were little, I could do anything. / …

Leon: Yes … /

Marx: That’s just because I was older. It’s the natural order of things. /

Nevertheless, you grew at a frighteningly quick pace, in every area you pursued me.

I could make no excuses if the older brother of the family was inferior to you.

That’s why I put my blood and tears into doing the best I could. To secure the proper image of an older brother. /

Leon: I … I can’t believe that.

Marx: It is neither lie, nor falsehood, but the truth. /

There’s no reason for you to feel like you’re behind me.

So shout out your opinions in the war council. That would be best for us all.

Leon: ………… /

… I understand. / …

From now on, I’m going to be more proactive. To the point that you view me as a threat! /

Marx: Heh, those are reassuring words. I’ll be depending on you, Leon. /

Translation end!

Translation notes: Marx is neither formal or informal, but somewhere in the middle. Sometimes he talks in a lofty tone and at other times, he talks like a normal guy, so if you sense there isn’t a consistency in the way he speaks, I’m trying to reflect the Japanese. Regardless, have any suggestions, comments, criticisms? Let me know in the comments below!
