Translation start:

Asama: ………… /

Aqua: Asama. You’ve been staring at me for quite a while … is there something you want? /

Asama: Lady Aqua … I did hope to inquire of something from you.

Aqua: Oh? /

Asama: Amongst our legion, you are a figure that bears an important role. /

Aqua: W-what is this? Why so suddenly … ? /

Asama: You hold everyone’s trust, and from that position, must guide everyone … /

Presently, is it not you who are always striving with all your strength in order to / 現にあなたは世界に平和を取り戻すため、

bring back peace to the world?

Aqua: ………… /

Asama: One look at you and it would appear that you are the very image of a flag of justice for our company. /

However … below that surface, is there not a more different … something hiding underneath? /

Aqua: A different … something? /

Asama: Yes … an unpredictable kind of something most would not find in the normal you, / アサマ: ええ…

A dark and deeply submersed blackness of the heart … so while you want to protect the world, / 暗く深く沈んだ心の闇…

At the same time you feel that eventually things will become as they are wont to, some sort of stance that looks above it all from a removed place … /

Yes, and I have the impression, if one were choose a side, that you’re closer to my side of things. /

Aqua: ………… /

Asama: Do you not feel keenly within this ill-defined icy breast of yours … hmm? /

Aqua: Even if in your wildest dreams that were true … I don’t have any obligation to answer you …

Asama: Oh dear … I’m afraid she trotted off.

Translation end!

Translation notes: Of all the characters whose dialogue I dread to translate, it is Asama’s. If you got a headache reading that, the Japanese is, if anything, worse, as I couldn’t quite wrest out every little piece of pretentious, overwrought symbolism Asama tries to inject in every line he says. Picture Asama as that one college student who always interrupts the teacher and goes on long, arrogrant diatribes about their thoughts when clearly they’re not really thinking much differently than anyone else. BTW, for people who know Japanese, there was no way I could figure out how to get the lines to match on that part about returning peace to the world without switching the order, but perhaps you know of a way I could do it? Let me know in the comments below.

If you want to see how Nintendo somewhat removed his penchant for being pretentious and hard to understand, the Fire Emblem fans at Serene’s Forest have transcribed this conversation here.
